Parking and Directions

35 E Walnut Street

Asheville Community Theatre is located in historic downtown Asheville, North Carolina at 35 East Walnut Street one block northwest of City Hall. Neighbors of ACT are: The Thomas Wolfe Memorial and Visitors Center, the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, Sovereign Remedies, and Brasilia.

Parking

Downtown Asheville is booming and parking can be difficult to find. We have several spaces adjacent to the theatre that are available on a first come, first served basis.

The closest street parking is found on Spruce, Walnut and Market streets (meters run until 6:00 pm Monday-Saturday, but are free on Sundays). Several paid parking lots surround our theatre, including a large one at HomeTrust Bank just 1 block from ACT at 10 Woodfin St. Our closest parking garages are:

  • College Street Garage: Buncombe County Parking Garage, located at 164 College St.
  • AC Marriott Hotel: located at 10 Broadway St.
  • Civic Center Garage: located at 68 Rankin Ave.
  • Rankin Avenue Garage: located at 84 W Walnut St.

Next door to Asheville Community Theatre, the Renaissance Hotel does offer paid parking through a third-party service. Parking at the Renaissance is no longer purchasable through ACT.

 

Driving Directions

If arriving in Asheville via Interstate 40 West

Take exit 53B onto I-240 West (this is Asheville’s cross-town expressway). Traveling west on I-240 take exit 5A (Merrimon Avenue), go to the light at the end of the exit ramp. Turn left on US 25 South, go to the second light (Walnut Street) and turn left. Go 1-1/2 blocks. Asheville Community Theatre will be on the left.

If arriving via Interstate 40 East, take exit 53B onto I-240

Traveling west on I-240 take exit 5A (Merrimon Avenue), go to the light at the end of the exit ramp. Turn left on US 25 South, go to the third light (Walnut Street) and turn left. Go 1-1/2 blocks.  Asheville Community Theatre will be on the left.

If arriving via Interstate 26 West

Take the I-240 “Asheville” exit. Traveling East on I-240 take exit 5A (Merrimon Avenue), go to the light at the end of the exit ramp. Turn left on US 25 South, go to the second light (Walnut Street) and turn left. Go 1-1/2 blocks. Asheville Community Theatre will be on the left.

If arriving from the south on US 25

Travel through downtown Asheville until you reach Walnut Street (you will see the Mellow Mushroom pizza restaurant). Turn right and go 1-1/2 blocks. Asheville Community Theatre will be on the left.

If arriving via Interstate 26 East (19/23 South)

Take the I-240 East exit. Traveling East on I-240 take exit 5A (Merrimon Avenue), go to the light at the end of the exit ramp. Turn left on US 25 South, go to the second light (Walnut Street) and turn left. Go 1-1/2 blocks. Asheville Community Theatre will be on the left.
