2026-27 Mainstage Auditions

ACT Mainstage productions are held over two days. Sign up for an audition time by filling out the audition form linked under each show’s information. Walk-ups are always welcome! Walk-ups will be asked to wait until the next available time slot.

Audition Workshop
ACT’s Audition Workshops are designed to give you a head start on your next Mainstage audition. These workshops are an open and inclusive environment, aiming to empower and excite everyone who participates. We focus on boosting your confidence and helping you feel prepared and enthusiastic about auditioning. Workshop participation is not required to audition.

ACT provides audition song options for each Mainstage season show. We choose a number of songs from the show. From this list, please select the song that best showcases your voice and talent. The tracks will be linked under each show’s information. Until we post the list of songs, feel free to listen to the whole show and get familiar with the music!

Come From Away

About The Show

Come From Away is based on the true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001.

About The Show

Once on a golden and verdant Caribbean island, a little girl is rescued from a disastrous storm by four gods—Asaka, Mother of the Earth; Agwé, god of Water; Erzulie, goddess of Love; and Papa Ge, demon of Death. So starts the myth told in this breathtaking story of Black joy and sorrow, the aftermath of colonization and isolation, and the triumph of love against all forces.

The Curious Savage by John Patrick

When her scheming stepchildren place Ethel Savage inn a genteel sanitarium, she happily discovers that the virtues of kindness and affection still exist in a world that seems primarily to value status, power and money.

Character Descriptions:

  • Ethel Savage: A wealthy older woman in her 50s – 60s with a youthful, mischievous spirit. She is a widow with three adult stepchildren: Lily Belle, Titus, and Samuel Savage, all of whom are after her fortune. She is clever, quick, and imaginative.
  • ​Lily Belle Savage: Mrs. Savage’s middle-aged stepdaughter. She is chic, impatient, and self-assured. She has been married six times and is extremely driven by money.
  • Senator Titus Savage: A well-dressed businessman of conservative taste. He is humorless and direct and is driven by his political power and wealth.
  • Judge Samuel Savage: The youngest Savage child. He is an undistinguished man. His siblings constantly overshadow him, and his rulings in court are usually overturned.
  • Florence: An elegant woman in her 20s-30s, with a gentle disposition and a sweet smile. She lost her son at an early age and has never emotionally recovered, so she carries a doll around named John Thomas, whom she treats as her son.
  • Jeffrey: Handsome young man in his 20s-30s, with the dignity of a much older man. He is a war veteran and is convinced that his face is badly scarred, even though his scars are strictly mental.
  • Fairy May: Young woman in her early 20s. She has a happy, cheerful nature; however, she is a perpetual liar, and she is terrified of the outside world.
  • Hannibal: A sweet, kind middle-aged man. He is a former statistician and loves mathematics. He is quite proud of his talents as a violin player, even though he only knows two chords.
  • Mrs. Paddy: A middle-aged woman with extreme ferocity. She refuses to speak to anyone, and she constantly turns off the lights because she hates electricity, among other things.
  • Miss Willie: An efficient young woman in her 20s – 30s. She works as a caregiver at the home. She is kind and loving, with incredible integrity.
  • Dr. Emmett: A kind, older doctor who treats his patients with genuine care and respect. His patients’ health and safety are his top priority.

Asheville Community Talent Showcase (ACTS)

The Asheville Community Talent Showcase is a diverse showcase of the talent we have here in Asheville. Bring your best skills – plate-spinning, singing, acrobatics, dancing, juggling, baton twirling – the possibilities are endless & very exciting!

Proceeds from ACTS support the Tanglewood Teens & Tech Crew senior scholarship fund. Tanglewood Teens is an audition-based performance troupe that provides a unique platform for young performers to receive top-level training in acting, singing, dancing, and the performing arts. Tanglewood Tech Crew is an application-based tech crew that provides an opportunity for young artists to receive training in all areas of technical theatre. This inclusive program is designed to develop artistic abilities as well as foster teamwork, discipline, and confidence.

Auditions for the 2026 ACTS are closed. Audition sign-ups for the 2027 ACTS will open in Spring 2027.

Student Matinees

Seeking an energetic and diverse cast of adults for Asheville Community Theatre’s 2025-2026 Student Matinee Season – performances for school groups and younger audiences. These are paid performance opportunities.

Youth Auditions

Youth Productions

This an immersive performance workshop that is specially tailored for young artists who aspire to learn and grow in the performing arts. At the First Cast Meeting, students will be taught a dance combination and song to take home and practice for auditions and parents will receive comprehensive information about the entire Youth Production process.

These auditions are not open to the general public. Students must be signed up in advance.

Tanglewood Summer Musicals

Best described as Summer Stock for Youth, Summer Musicals are fast-paced, energetic rehearsal days that culminate in six public performances on the last two days of camp! With songs, dances, and hilarious material great for performers of all ages, the Summer Musical is sure to be an unforgettable experience!

These auditions are not open to the general public. Students must be signed up in advance.

ACT is excited to offer three year-long programs for middle and high school students to receive top-level training in the performing arts.

Auditions sign-ups and applications for the 2026-27 Tanglewood Teens, Tanglewood Youth and Tanglewood Tech programs will open Summer 2026.

Script Check-Out Policy

Asheville Community Theatre makes play scripts available prior to auditions. In order to ensure that scripts are returned in good condition and in a timely manner, we ask everyone to follow the following policies:

  • Each person checking out a script must leave a $10 refundable deposit or a credit card number. We will keep the cash deposit or charge your card if the script is not returned by the due date or is damaged.
  • Scripts are typically available to check out for a 7-day period. One week before auditions, scripts are only available to be checked out for a 24-hour period.
  • We are not able to lend scripts or music for musicals.
  • Scripts are available for check out at the Box Office. Please call us at 828-254-1320 for hours or to check on the availability of your script.

 

Asheville Community Theatre will not cast a minor and an adult to portray an on-stage relationship.

Asheville Community Theatre policy prohibits participation by anyone on any sex offender or sexual abuse registry in any activity sponsored by Asheville Community Theatre.
